Ling Yen Jones
新型コロナ流行の間、私は違ったテーマを探してみたり、今までのLing-Yenのデザインラインを変えることに興味を持ったりするようになりました。例えば、私の定番シリーズである「Windows of Opportunity（チャンスの窓）」では、複数の窓があるブレスレット作品を制作しましたが、その際に素晴らしい色彩でダイナミックな形をしたオーストラリア産のオパールを使用しました。ホールディングスペース ネックレスは、私が手がけたもう一つのデザインコンセプトで、穴の開いたシルバーの中空のフォルムに空間を閉じ込めるというアイデアを追求したものです。もちろん、今でもアジア人らしい顔を作ったり、顔の神秘性やユニークさを象徴するような作品を作ることを楽しんでいます。 ですが、コロナ禍の中で、取り外し可能なマスクを付けることを思いつきました。 私たちが身を守る術としてマスクをつけなければならないこと、そしてマスクが私たちの新しいアイデンティティの一部として機能するようになったことから着想を得ました。これは、自分自身や他の人に、困難な時期を優しくリアルに思い出させる方法として思いついたものです。
During COVID I became interested in exploring different themes or altering my traditional Ling-Yen designs lines. For example, in my classic series Windows of Opportunity I created a bracelet piece with multiple windows and used an Australian opal which is amazing in color and has a dynamic shape. My Holding Space necklace is another design concept I worked on in which I explored the idea of enclosing space in a silver hollow form with holes in it.
Of course, I still enjoy creating my Asian-like faces and making pieces that symbolize the mystery and uniqueness of faces. But during COVID I was inspired to add a removable mask.
My inspiration was in how we all must now wear masks as a way of protecting ourselves, and how the masks have come to serve in some ways as part of our new identification. This idea came to me as a way to remind myself and others of our difficult times in a gentle and real way.
