Carolyn Carleton Browe
キャロリンは41年間に渡り、インテリアデザイン業界でラグやカーペットの手織りをしてきました。コネチカット州にある8代目の家族農場で育った彼女は、姉妹とともに、父親が飼っていた羊の毛を使って、紡ぎ、染め、織ることを自分たちで身につけました。
サンフランシスコのベイエリアで天然素材と化学素材の染織を学び、知識を深め、1980年には、亡き夫ヴィンセント・カールトン氏と共同で、ラグを織るスタジオ「カールトン・デザインズ」を立ち上げました。この12年間は、イカット染めや、ウールのフェルトのパッチワークを使った新しいラグのデザインも模索してきました。現在、彼女のラグは、サンフランシスコ、南カリフォルニア、ニューヨーク、シカゴのインテリアデザインのショールームに展示されています。

Carolyn Carleton Browe has been handweaving rugs and carpets for the interior design trade for 41 years. Raised on her family’s 8th-generation farm in Connecticut, she and her sister taught themselves spinning, dyeing and weaving with the wool from their father’s sheep. Studies in natural and chemical dyeing and weaving in the SF Bay Area broadened her knowledge and in 1980, her rug weaving studio, Carleton Designs, was launched in collaboration with her late husband, Vincent Carleton. In the last 12 years, Carolyn has also been exploring new rug designs with ikat dyeing and in pieced and stitched wool felt. Today her rugs are represented by interior design showrooms in San Francisco, Southern California, New York and Chicago.
